General Description::
The Director of Diocesan Communications (Director) supports the Bishop of Diocese Las Vegas’ ministry and represents the Bishop and the Diocese of Las Vegas by directing and supervising all official internal and external communications of the Diocese of Las Vegas, including social media, public/media relations, and fundraising/marketing strategies. The Director attends events lead by the Bishop, Auxiliary Bishop, and other relevant functions to cultivate information, media and photographs for immediate posting to the Diocesan website and related media. The Director works closely with the Bishop to identify priorities, targeted audiences, developing high level content along with channels of communication. The Director cultivates relationships with local media outlets, serves as the first contact for media inquiries and is responsible for arranging interviews, organizing news conferences, responding to media inquiries and credentialing press for major events. The Director will work varied hours and be present at events as directed by the Bishop.The Director of Communications is considered a minister within the Church and as such must be a practicing Catholic in good standing who will perform all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Diocese of Las Vegas and the Roman Catholic Church.

Duties and Responsibilities:
STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS •Responsible for managing marketing and creating the content for the Diocesan website and digital platforms.•Works collaboratively to identify, develop, and implement effective internal and external communications strategies that support diocesan mission statement and core goals.•Advise and support the Bishop on matters of strategic communications and media relations including crisis communications.•Collaborates with the Bishop, the Auxiliary Bishop and any Curia on branding of all messaging, of all Diocesan events and fundraising, including the annual Catholic Stewardship Appeal.•Develops and directs Diocesan messages, talking points and supporting materials while keeping in mind the visibility and reputation of the Bishop.•Work creatively with staff and ministry directors to maximize publicity for special events, programs, and major announcements from diocesan offices.•Develop a public relations strategy for the Diocese, all Diocesan events, and serves as a resource to Parishes to advertise their local events.•Works creatively with staff and ministry directors to maximize publicity for special events, programs, and major announcements from Diocesan offices.•Serve as webmaster of the Diocesan website; and takes the initiative to develop content, and refresh website on a frequent, ongoing basis to reflect current activities in Parishes and initiatives of the Diocese. •Ensure both internal and external branding is consistent throughout the Diocese.•Serve as editor of any Diocesan social media, magazine, e-magazine, newsletter; Determines content, edits, and coordinates any such publications six times a year with final approval of the Bishop/Auxiliary Bishop before posting.•Recruit Pastors, members of the Curia and others to write articles and submit photos and videos for use in the various Diocesan website, social media.MEDIA/PUBLIC RELATIONS•Responsible for all aspects of public relations, media relations and external communications; as an active and contributing member of the senior leadership Curia team advising the Bishop.•Ensure the Diocese maintains a positive image by developing communication plans, overseeing and approving any organizational information or announcements before released to the public, including press releases for the Diocese, Parishes, and schools. •Manage any crisis communication needs, including public relations, of the Diocese, Parishes and schools; Provides public relations and crisis management counsel to the Bishop, Curia, Pastoral Center staff, Priests, Parishes, and schools.•Cultivates ongoing relationships with local media outlets and maintain an updated media contact list/databases.•Responds to media requests and coordinates media interviews. •Attends various events as directed by the Bishop and Auxiliary Bishop.ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS •Communicates a vision of high-quality and relevant communication strategies as tools for evangelization and catechesis.•Monitors social media content about the Diocese, reporting noteworthy articles and posts to the Bishop, Auxiliary Bishop, and Curia. •Posts news articles, publications, pictures, and video to the Diocesan website, Facebook, and Twitter accounts.•Responds to requests from the public for information and complaints, routing as needed for resolution through the Curia, working quickly to resolve issues and answer questions.•Attends community events; maintains community relations, working with other organizations, government agencies, non-profits, and other religious denominations.ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThese additional requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: •Advanced written, verbal and digital communication skills.•Analytical skills to solve problems and find the best way to convey a message.•Prior publication experience.•Crisis Management experience. •Travel within the Diocese of Las Vegas.•Work evenings and weekends, as needed for special events or projects.•Must possess thorough and in-depth knowledge of the Catholic faith as well as the structure and inner workings of the Catholic Church.

Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or related field. •Three to five years’ practical professional experience in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, media relations, and audiovisual. •Experience in a Roman Catholic environment and knowledge of the Roman Catholic faith.•Possesses professional proficiency in oral and written English-language communication.•Possesses a clear speaking voice. •Spanish-language communication skills are strongly preferred. •Supports the mission of the Roman Catholic Church.•Understands the basic structure of the Catholic Church and its organization into Dioceses and parishes.•Possesses the ability to think quickly in challenging situations and form appropriate and effective communication responses on-the-spot. •Provides excellent customer service. •Possesses computer literacy, including Basic HTML, Photoshop and other Web production and content management software. •Possesses time management skills including ability to manage several projects at the same time. •Possesses proficiency in social media applications and platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. •Successful experience in project management is a bonus.
