 JOB PRIMARY PURPOSE/FUNCTION

The Marriage and Family Life Coordinator is responsible for providing coordination, collaboration, administration, support, and leadership for the parish leaders in areas of marriage and family life for the Diocese of Davenport.  The Coordinator identifies, designs, organizes and implements a process for the development, training, and ongoing accompaniment of leaders with a focus on building parish capacity in marriage preparation, early marriage, family formation, and the full inclusion of and pastoral care of families, especially those with special needs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Identify, design, organize and implement a process for the development and training of leaders in family ministry.
  2. Aid in the development of formation components for parish and other training programs within the Diocese.
  3. Provide consultative service to the various deaneries and parishes to help carry out the objectives identified within the strategic plan.
  4. Collaborate with the diocesan deans and other representatives from the Diocese appointed by the Bishop.
  5. Effectively respond to and provide resources to the target areas of family ministry, which include, but are not limited to: singles, married couples, parents, developing families, divorced / separated persons, sponsor couples, marriage preparation, marriage enrichment, hurting families, family spirituality, households with special needs, and family leadership.
  6. Develop a network of communication and enrichment for family formation ministers within the Diocese.
  7. Collaborate in ministering to the parishioners of the Diocese in the areas of marriage and family life.
  8. Regular visits to the deaneries and deanery meetings to support the pastors throughout the year.
  9. Deliver services Diocesan-wide by utilizing appropriate systems.
  10. Integrate current trends, theories and practices in parish family life.
  11. Evaluate effectiveness of family life ministry opportunities utilized in the Diocese and prepares recommendations for presentation to the Director of the Office of Faith Formation.
  12. Organize opportunities for involvement in family life projects.
  13. Assist in identifying parish/deanery leaders in family life.
  14. Participate in the preparation of budgetary and other reports; review monthly financial statements, budgets and operating plan.
  15. Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s degree (master's preferred) in theology, religious education, religious studies, adult education, or related field, or equivalent pastoral experience.
  2. Parish and pastoral experience in marriage and family life ministry.
  3. Familiarity with recent research in the areas of marriage and family life.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Efficient and effective organizational skills.
  2. Practicing Roman Catholic with a sound theology of church and parish in keeping with the theology and mission statement of the Diocese.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Interpersonal professional relationships, both internally and externally to the Diocese of Davenport, which encourage openness, candor and trust.
  5. Overall soundness of decisions, effective delegation and maintenance of confidentiality for all sensitive information.
  6. Flexibility in performing designated duties.
  7. Acceptance of personal inconvenience for attainment of the Diocesan goals.
  8. Meet or exceed development objectives established in budgetary process.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. High ability to analyze and interpret information pertinent to areas of responsibility.
  2. Ability to utilize technology relative to the performance in the areas of responsibility.
  3. Ability to perform designated duties under time constraints.
  4. Willingness to work irregular hours as required to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
  5. Ability to travel by automobile, as needed, in the course of the position.
  6. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit for prolonged periods of time, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. The employee is required to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

  1. A majority of the assigned duties are performed in a well-ventilated, well-lighted and temperature-controlled office environment.
  2. The employee is subject to both internal and external environmental conditions, including    extreme cold and extreme heat.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

  1. The position can expect an evaluation in the first six months of employment by the appropriate line of organizational relationship, with annual evaluations thereafter.
  2. Salary considerations will be commensurate with education and experience.
