Summary:

 

The Director of the Youth and Young Adult Ministry is responsible for assisting, supporting and providing direct and indirect services for all who minister to the young Church. This role, in collaboration with the parishes, spearheads various programs for youth and young adults throughout the Diocese of Evansville. The position directly reports the Chief Operating Officer and indirectly to the Bishop of the Evansville Diocese.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Collaborate in diocesan planning with the Bishop for ministry to the youth and young adults of the Diocese of Evansville by following USCCB pastoral letters relating to campus ministry and youth and young adult formation.

 

  • Schedule and facilitate regular meetings of Parish Directors and Coordinators of Youth and Young Adult Ministry

 

  • Respond to the needs of Youth and Young Adult Ministry as assessed in Diocesan pastoral planning.

 

  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Diocesan Director of Catechesis, activities between Youth and Young Adult Leaders and Parish Directors

 

  • Responsible for hiring and supervision of the College Campus Ministers in accordance with diocesan personnel policies

 

  • Assess the work of Directors in accordance with role descriptions
  • Provide formal periodic evaluations
  • Convene and lead regular monthly meetings of Campus Ministers

 

  • Establish a network for people ministering to Youth and Young Adults in the Diocese:
    • Identify persons responsible for this ministry in parishes, clustered parishes and other institutions
    • Communicate and convene the network on a regular basis
    • Coordinate professional development
    • Provide consultative services to pastors, parish life coordinators, parish councils, high school administration, and youth commissions.

 

  • Establish centralized guidelines:

 

  • To assist parishes in creating job descriptions and salary guidelines
  • To assist parishes in hiring new Parish Directors and Coordinators of Youth Ministry

 

  • Ensure Youth Protection implementation, in conjunction with the Vice Chancellor, for youth and young adult activities.

 

  • Propose diocesan policy relating to ministry & evangelization to the youth and young adults of the Diocese in collaboration with Directors of College Campus Ministry and Ministers to Youth and Young Adults.

 

  • Direct the implementation of diocesan policy for ministry to youth and young adults, ensuring that all programs meet the approved Church Theology and continue the charism of programs and movements.

 

  • Report regularly to the Bishop, Bishop's Staff, and Diocesan Consultative Groups on ministry to youth and young adults in the diocese.

 

  • Serve as diocesan spokesperson on matters concerning ministry to youth and young adults.

 

  • Serve as a channel of communication from various national youth organizations and the USCCB to diocesan and parish leadership concerning ministry to youth and young adults.

 

 

  • Collaborate with parish and diocesan leadership in all matters relating to the ministry to youth and young adults in the diocese.

 

  • Prepare and implement the approved budget for:

 

  • Diocesan Office for Ministry to Youth and Young Adults
  • College Campus Ministry, in collaboration with Campus Ministers
  • Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts

 

  • Coordinate funding for various training programs for youth leaders, i.e., management of endowments.

 

  • Collaborate with other members of the Bishop's Staff.

 

  • Serve as staff to the Bishop in matters pertaining to ministry to youth and young adults, and carry out assigned tasks.

 

  • In conjunction with other Parish Directors and Coordinators of Youth Ministry, Movement Leadership, and other pertinent youth leadership, develop and maintain a master schedule for all Diocesan-wide youth and young adult activities.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Education, Pastoral Ministry / Youth Ministry, or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of experience in youth ministry preferred.
  • 2 years of program and event oversight experience required
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Canva, PowerPoint, Adobe, and various other communicative tools
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively express ideas and opinions in order to achieve positive outcomes
  • Ability to effectively and successfully manage and prioritize multiple projects and adjust to shifting priorities
