Summary: To promote, coordinate and develop the active participation of the parish community in liturgical prayer and music.

This position is primarily onsite, with occasional nights and weekends required, based on the needs of the parish. This role requires a friendly, helpful, person with good judgment and a heart for serving the staff and community. 

Responsibilities:

Parish:

  • Weekly direct the music and cantors for the Saturday 5:00pm, Sunday 8:00 and 10:30am and 5:00pm liturgies. Cover holy days, Lenten Friday nights, Parish retreats & missions, regional Masses and other as needed
  •  Act as accompanist at weekend Masses and seasonal liturgies
  • To oversee all liturgical music for the weekend liturgies, assuring continuity throughout the liturgies and reviewing the music selections for each liturgy six weeks in advance
  • With DRE coordinate and help execute the music for children's sacramental celebrations
  • Partner with Pastor and DRE to design, prepare and execute all liturgies including various seasonal liturgies such as Lent, Easter, etc.
  • Meet with engaged couples and coordinate music for weddings. Meet with families and coordinate music for funerals. Attend staff and liturgy meetings
  • Meet with other music leaders before every liturgical season to coordinate appropriate music for that season

School:

  • Meet with teachers to plan occasional school liturgies
  • Accompanist during school Masses

Administrative:

  • To serve as a resource person to parish staff and parish at large on the subject of music within liturgical worship
  • Advertise and promote activities by use of weekly parish bulletin flyers, pulpit announcements and other appropriate media
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of all parish owned instruments. Coordinate with outside contractors to maintain sound system
  • Supervise the person responsible for operating the sound system
  • Order and distribute all music requested by music leaders
  • Complete all volunteer paperwork and training as per Diocesan guidelines
  • Coordinate replacement musicians for specific absences
  • Submit purchase orders and ensure timely ordering of supplies
  • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions


Budget:

  • Propose a yearly budget plan of itemized financial assessment of the cost and expenses for the following items: a) Equipment b) Choir materials, c) Staff development expenses (professional memberships & subscriptions), d) Contracted musicians

Minimum Requirements: Ability to play piano and organ, choir direction skills, good sense and knowledge of catholic church liturgy
Education: Bachelor's degree in music, ability to play piano and organ in church environment
Experience: Musical background or other background demonstrating application of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  •  Ability to formulate liturgies based on sound theology
  •  Ability to provide musical performances and public speaking engagements
  •  Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities to include sensitivity and confidentiality
  •  Knowledge of church history, spirituality and liturgy
  • Participation in continuing education, workshops and seminars
  • A recognition of the role of the pastor in the parish and an ability and willingness to support that reality
  • Willingness to attend parish functions
  • Valid Driver License
