POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and strategic direction of the human resources function within the Archdiocese of Las Vegas. Serving as a key member of the Archdiocesan Curia, the Director of Human Resources provides leadership, support, consultation, and guidance to the Archdiocese as well as its Parishes, Schools, and Ministries. This role includes, without limitation, developing and implementing policies to ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws and offering advice on a broad range of human resources matters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure that all duties and decisions of the position are carried out in a manner that upholds and supports the mission, values, and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Collaborate with Archdiocesan senior leadership to integrate effective human resource planning and practices into the broader organizational strategy.
- Provide Pastors, Administrators, Principals, Directors, and other managers with technical advice on employee relation issues, including, but not limited to, assisting with necessary documentation for employee issues, job descriptions, performance appraisals, and counseling employees.
- Administer centralized program for all requests for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Workers’ Compensation, as well as accommodations under the ADA; Provide guidance to senior leadership on limitations regarding employees on leave or being accommodated, ensuring appropriate handling of employee leave, accommodations, and related matters.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to create a plan that identifies trends in non-compliance and potential areas of vulnerability and risk; develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution.
- Collaborate with the Archdiocesan General Counsel, Director of Operations, Chief Financial Officer, on a wide range of employee matters, including without limitation implementation of new labor and employment laws, and the development of electronic Recruiting/Onboarding through the Paylocity Payroll Program.
- Administer centralized onboarding process, including, but not limited to, evaluating Fair Labor Standards Act classifications and ensuring of all new hire paperwork is properly completed such as the I-9 form.
- Coordinate legal compliance and employee separation issues with the Archdiocesan General Counsel, Director of Operations, and/or Chief Financial Officer (EPLI Coverage requires that all terminations be preapproved by General Counsel), including severance agreements and compliance with federal and state law.
- Draft Archdiocesan Human Resource Policies, including handbooks for Archdiocesan employees and volunteers; Design fillable forms for use by senior leadership including, but not limited to, Exempt Classification Worksheet Forms, Job Offers, and Annual Performance Review Forms.
- Conduct new employee orientations and Human Resources related trainings in cooperation with senior leaders.
- Must maintain regular attendance.
OTHER FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
- Maintain personnel records to ensure compliance with legal and established requirements.
- Review job postings for legal requirements and post positions for the Archdiocese and senior leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
- BA or BS in Human Resources (or related business discipline) preferred or SHRM certified as Professional or Senior professional (PHR/SPHR) as well as specialized training in a wide variety of Human Resources disciplines.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations governing employment and personnel.
- Minimum five years’ experience in Human Resources in a mid-sized to large company.
- Must be able to work in as a team in a team-based environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and organization skills and able to multi-task.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Adobe Pro.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with highly sensitive and confidential information.
